Marking a Product as ‘Built’

The ShopPAK Job tree shows all the products under a given Work Order.  ShopPAK shows different status values by drawing a box around a product icon.  A blue box identifies a product that is considered ‘built’.  A green box identifies a product that has been shipped.

The ShopPAK Shop Floor Data Collection setup dialog provides two options for marking a product as being built:

The first option lets you scan any product bar code regardless of its work order.  With each scan, the shop floor kiosk shows the product and its scan count.

The second option shows all the products and their built status for a particular work order.

To use Shop Floor Data Collection to mark products as being built, click the “Built” button:

If you selected the setup option to show products as they are scanned, the “Built Product” list will be empty when first displayed:

If you chose the second option, you'll first have to pick the work order you want to work with, and then you'll see all of the products under that work order and their scanning status:

You can type the product code of a finished product, but a much better approach is using a bar code scanner to scan the product’s bar code.  An easy way of doing this is attaching a pre-printed list of bar-coded product labels to the back of a work order, and when the product reaches the point where it is considered ‘built’, scan the bar code label.  Then attach the label to the product (the product label is used later for ship ticket verification and shipping).

As you scan product labels, the scanned product is added to the list, or when scanning another occurrence of the same product, ‘Scans’ is incremented accordingly.

Once you’ve finished scanning in a batch of completed products, click the Done button.  This updates the ShopPAK database and returns you to the Employee List.

SmartPART Pallets
If you purchased SmartPART, TradeSoft’s kitting and part tracking application, one of its capabilities is creating a pallet that contains one or more finished products.  SmartPART generates a pallet bar code label that uniquely identifies a given pallet, and by association, all of the products contained on the pallet.

Rather than scanning each product on a pallet as being ‘built’, it is easier and faster to scan the pallet’s barcode.  Shop Floor Data Collection will read every product on the pallet and update its ShopPAK ‘built’ count.
